MEET DR. DEREK HO
Derek Ho, MD, FAAD is a board-certified dermatologist with a fellowship in clinical research. Dr. Ho is excited to return back to Los Angeles following his dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, NY.
A native of Hong Kong, Dr. Ho grew up in Arcadia, California, and is the first physician in his family. After high school, he headed east for his undergraduate education at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. After earning his Bachelor of Science in molecular and cellular biology, he returned to California for a gap year and served as a volunteer with City Year Los Angeles through AmeriCorps, teaching and helping underserved youth with classroom homework and after school recreational activities.
He returned to the East Coast for medical school and earned his degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine with a distinction in research. His training focused on patients of all ages, from pediatrics to seniors. He also gained tremendous experience treating skin-of-color and ethnic patients as Brooklyn has a prominent African American, Caribbean and Asian population.
It was during medical school that Dr. Ho found his passion for dermatology and research. He took a two-year leave of absence during medical school to pursue a fellowship in clinical research at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento. Dr. Ho has since published more than 30 indexed and peer-reviewed dermatology manuscripts and given podium presentations at dermatology conferences both nationally and internationally.
During residency, Dr. Ho served as resident director for cosmetic dermatology, helping to organize educational sessions and collaborating with industry to empower his co-residents with knowledge on the latest cosmetic treatment options.
Dr. Ho is bilingual, speaking Chinese and English. When he’s not working, Dr. Ho enjoys traveling, especially internationally to see family overseas. He also enjoys water sports, cooking, “firing up the grill,” and spending quality time with family and friends. His motto is: “Cherish every single moment.”
